I graduated from UW's Computer Engineering department in June of 1999. In Fall 2001 I returned to school, while still working full-time, and began working towards my Masters degree in Computer Science as part of UW's Professional Masters Program. From this page you can view some of the projects I've completed while in the CSE department, my programming hobbies, or view my online resume.

Winter 2003 Schedule:

UW Class Projects:

CSE 591 Computer Graphics, Jack Attack :
It's a 30 second short animation directed by me, who else? I built the simple, yet recognizable, model from some basic geometric primitives using OpenGL. The animation was rendered via key frames, using B-Spline curves to smoothly interpolate the motion. Warning, this download is over 2 Megs, so you'll need a fast connection or some patience. If you have trouble downloading it, I suggest you clear your Internet cache, right click the link, and "Save As" to your favorite local directory. What does this clip say about the trend of American fast food dining, hmmmm? Check out the course web pages for more info on the other projects we completed for this class.

CSE 490 Windows DirectX 3D multi-player Game, RubX Cubed :
This is my senior software Capstone design project.  Our team of 5 senior UW developers must come up with concept design, 3D modeling/animation, engine, sound, music, and effects for a Windows game.  We'll be utilizing DirectX6.1 SDK.  Our concept is a race between teams of Rubiks Cubes, in a dizzying scramble to pick up their 6 center pieces before their opponents. The sweet animated motion, crazy attacks, and teamwork strategy will keep players rivoted.  Check out our team's web pages for a more complete description of the game.

CSE 477 Palm Pilot map location system, BIG DOG 2000
My senior hardware Capstone design project was a short range positioning system via infrared communication for use with Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs). The prototype is code-named BIG DOG 2000 and I worked with 2 other partners doing everything from concept design to hardware and software implementation. A typical use for our system would be when you goto COSTCO and are searching for... let's say Beef Jerky. You'd look at your PDA, which will be displaying a bitmap of COSTCO showing your current position in the store as well as the location of the Jerky. Seeing that the jerky is about a mile away you decide to get cheese whiz instead. Not only that but the map scrolls automatically as you walk throughout the store!  Check out the complete project description.

CSE 341 Java drawing & animation applet, Key-Frame Animator:
With this on-line Java applet you can draw a scene, save that frame, move the shapes around and save them as more frames. Then begin the animation which will interpolate between the frames producing a smooth animated clip that you designed.

Programming Hobbies:

Windows Screen Saver, Chichi Saver 1.0:
This Windows 95/98/NT screen saver is a present for my fiancee.  The concept was sparked by the love of her tiny chihuahua named Chichi, and the popularity of the Taco Bell chihuaua ads.  Keep in mind this is the initial version which is cute but still prety basic.  I plan to write a version 2.0 sometime in the future... with a slightly more entertaining concept.

Employment Info:

If for some odd reason you'd like to view my on-line RESUME then go ahead. I currently have a job with Philips Ultrasound. I've been working there for over three years now in their graphics and image processing software division, writing software in C++ using DirectX to display and export ultrasound images. It's by far the most interesting and rewarding work I've done to date. I've also been working towards my Masters degree in CS at the same time.

Oringinally, after graduating with my undergrad degree I went to work for imandi.com during the height of the dot com boom. I worked there for about a year and a half, before that bubble burst. Actually the company is still around, they re-invented themselves as Rendition Networks, they now make network configuration management software solutions.

The last two quarters as an undergrad, I worked at UW as a teaching assistant for the CSE 370 Intro to Digital Logic Design course. I wrote homework solutions, tutored students, graded papers, provided computer support, and even taught the 25 student quiz section classes a couple times. Check out the winter quarter or spring quarter web pages I helped to maintain.

During the summer of 1998 I worked as a technical intern at WRQ Inc. performing technical testing of their Express Software Manager tools, and led a team of 7 testers to run a test suite on the 5.0 beta release. I wrote test scripts, utilized automated test designed testsfriendly developers who acted as mentors. It was a great company to work for, with very helpful and interesting people offering mentorship.

The summer before that (1997) I interned as a software test engineer at Fluke Corporation. The bulk of the work was programming an automated test system for their digital network cable meters in PERL. I definitely recommend them as a prospective employer because of the freedom you have on projects and the amount of help they give to their interns and new employees.
